The town Motru is located to the intersection of important pathes of communication toward Muntenia, Banat, Oltenia and Ardeal:

• Road DN 67, Targu – Jiu – Drobeta Turnu Severin, he wanders through the mining basin Motru from south to north,  between the town Targu Jiu, the mining basin Rovinari and the mining basin Mehedinti;

• District Road Strehaia – Brosteni – Motru – Baia de Arama, which starts from DN 67 and assure the connection of all localities from the west zone of the basin Motru;

• Internal Roads from basin, wherethrough each mining plecinct has insured the connection with DN 67;
  

• The modernized Road Plostina – Stiucani – Miculesti – Cojmanesti which continues the principal artery with the connection between the carboniferous basin Motru and Jilt;

• The Highway Motru – Samarinesti;

• The railway Motru – Strehaia which is joined to the ferovial highway Timisoara – Bucharest.

• In the aim of protection of industrial realizations of distructive effect of surface water were regularized all valleys from the zone of mining precinct, thus: The brook Bazavani (precinct Horasti), the brook Boca (precinct Horasti, Boca), the brook Leurda (precinct Leurda), the brook Valea Ciresului (precinct Plostina), the brooks Rosiuta and Stirbet (precinct Rosiuta), the brook Lupoaia with the affluents Stoican Valley (precinct Lupoaia) which is regularized and overflows in the river Motru in upstream of town. Most important hydrotechnic work is the confinetion by dykes of river Motru in the zone of town Motru, contained between DN 67 (the road bridge) and the overflow of brook Lupoaia, as well as in aval of bridge (500 m) for the protection of precinct Meris. Also, it's been realized the deviation and the regulation of river Motru in upstream by city to the Catunele locality for the facilitation of emplacement of dirt-heap of the carrier Lupoaia.
